Delegation from the Institute of Chinese Borderland Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Visits IFES
On October 28, 2023, the Institute for Far Eastern Studies, Kyungnam University (Director Lee Kwan-Sei) held a roundtable discussion with researchers from the Institute of Chinese Borderland Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences on the topic of "Changes in the Northeast Asian Situation and Korea-China Relations."
Participants included Director Lee Kwan-Sei, Professors Lee Sang-Man, Choi Young Joon, and Kim Sang Bum from IFES; and Vice-Director Fan Enshi, Vice-Managers (of Northern Borderland Lab) Chu Dongmei and Zhu Jian, and Assistant Researcher Ge Xiaohui from the Institute of Chinese Borderland Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
The meeting was held to discuss issues of mutual interest regarding plans for academic exchanges between the institutions; evaluation and development direction of Korea-China relations; and status of the situation on the Korean Peninsula, including military cooperation between North Korea and Russia. Participants discussed 1) the necessity and measures to promote mutual understanding and improve awareness through Korea-China exchanges; 2) the intensifying strategic competition between the US and China in the Indo-Pacific region; and 3) South Korea-China cooperation amid US-China strategic competition and the growing closer relationship between North Korea and Russia.
