The report’s analysis was cited by many media outlets, and at various academic conferences many discussions were held on the distribution process of fake news related to North Korea, its impact on our society, and its harm. In addition to the increased interest and understanding of misinformation related to North Korea in the government, political circles, domestic and foreign media, and academic experts, is a deeper analysis that allows us to seriously think about responding to misinformation related to North Korea. During the spreading of fake news about North Korea, it was easy to forget when the crisis was escalating and when it happened, but the report made us all aware. Above all, the necessity to analyze the phenomenon that false information related to North Korea is periodically generated and spread from a multi-faceted and multi-layered perspective was realized. The last report was published as a summary, making it somewhat difficult for the general public to grasp the full background of the issue. To complement this, the IFES prepared a more comprehensive report, Multi-layer Analysis and Understanding of False Information about North Korea. Through the analysis of causes, implications, and cases by type, the follow-up report helps to improve our understanding of the spread of false information related to North Korea. At the same time, with the addition of discussion on legal punishment and foreign case studies, the report discusses the possibility of practical discipline on the distribution of fake news. We hope that this multi-layered analysis will help others contemplate and reflect on the issue. It is hoped that the persistent harm caused by such fake news will be eliminated and the inter-Korean relations will continue through constructive talks, ultimately creating a peaceful atmosphere on the Korean Peninsula.
