Amidst China willing to achieve Chinese unification (Cross-Strait unification), which remains as the nation’s key interest, no leader has been willing to concede and intense relations maintained. With the launch of Tsai Ing-wen’s Democratic Progressive Party started the pursuit for the Desinicization route, and the US, adopting the strategy of holding China in check, engaged in the mass sale of tactical weapons, allowed the visit of key personnel from Taiwan to US, allowed the visit of high-ranking US government officials to Taiwan, and ordered the US naval ship to enter the Taiwan strait; all of them contributed to the intensification of Cross-Strait relations. In addition to this, China has been increasing their threat level through engaging in armed protests against Taiwan, thus falling into a dilemma of security. This report analyzes the key problem of US-China relations and seeks further to analyze and explore prospects of the instability of the Taiwan problem during the period of strategical competition, the changes in Taiwan policy in both countries, and Taiwan’s response to the policy.
