‘Global Hanma 2024’ Program Participants Visit the IFES
On Friday, August 14 in Jungsan Hall at the Institute for Far Eastern Studies of Kyungnam University (Director Lee Kwan-Sei), IFES held a visitation event with foreign university students who are participating in the “2024 Global Hanma” Program.
The program was attended by 53 students from six countries: 39 from Japan, 8 from China, 3 from Taiwan, and 1 each from the USA, Thailand, and the Philippines.
In his welcoming remarks, President Park Jae Kyu thanked all the students who participated in the program and explained the 50-year history of the IFES, including the background of its establishment, and stressed that he hoped that the Global Hanma Program would be an enjoyable and meaningful time to understand the situation in Northeast Asia and the Korean Peninsula.
The participates watched promotional videos of the IFES and University of North Korean Studies and toured the library and its special archives, expressing great interest in the 20,000 items of North Korean materials.
* The “Global Hanma” program has been held annually since 1996 with the aim of strengthening the university’s network by inviting students from overseas sister universities to participate in experiential cultural exchange activities with Kyungnam University students during the summer vacation.
