On December 15, 2022, the IFES and the Embassy of Canada in Seoul held a closed-door roundtable. This was the fourteenth such interactive roundtable discussion, which brings together members of the diplomatic community and IFES faculty to share views on current trends in North Korea, inter-Korean relations, and regional security.

North Korea’s perception of its internal and external security environment and movement toward a new Cold War, its robust missile testing, and possibility of a seventh nuclear test, inter alia, were topics of concern. Views were shared on the need for arms control methods to deter North Korea's military power, as well as views on the Taiwan issue (as it relates to the US-China competition) and the effectiveness of the international sanctions against North Korea.

The IFES and the Canadian Embassy in Korea have held closed-door roundtables every year since in 2015.
