The Institute for Far Eastern Studies (Director Lee Kwan-Sei) of Kyungnam University opened the 14th IFES Academy of Unification Economy on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at the IFES in Seoul.

 

In his welcoming speech at the opening ceremony, Director Lee Kwan-Sei said, “As non-traditional security such as economic security is emerging as a big issue, economic and security issues must be dealt with in depth in order to create peace on the Korean Peninsula in the future.”

 

Vice Minister of Unification Kim Ki Woong then gave a keynote lecture on the topic “Recent Situation on the Korean Peninsula and the Yoon Suk-yeol Administration’s Unification and North Korea Policy.” The keynote was followed by a comprehensive Q&A session with the academy participants.

 

The 14th Academy is scheduled to hold a total of 11 lectures until December 1 under the main theme “Exploring New Inter-Korean Relations in the Era of Economic Security.” The session topics are as follows:


Recent situation on the Korean Peninsula and the Yoon Suk-yeol administration’s unification and North Korea policy (Kim Ki Woong, Vice Minister of Unification )

The strategic value of North Korea in terms of economic and security paradigm (Professor Lim Eul Chul, IFES, Kyungnam University)

The complex crisis we are facing in the era of economic security and the mid- to long-term response (Professor Lee Young-Sung, Seoul National University)
