The Institute for Far Eastern Studies (IFES) of Kyungnam University and the Embassy of Canada to the ROK held an interactive discussion on North Korea this past Tuesday, 26 October 2021 at the Canadian embassy.
Under the theme “Restarting Negotiations with North Korea: Recent Developments in North Korea and Implications for Policy,” participants from the Ministry of Unification, IFES, and the various foreign embassies in Seoul shared their views and questions on the latest developments in North Korea, including the recent session of the Supreme People’s Assembly and personnel changes in the State Affairs Commission, North Korea’s recent ballistic missile tests and ongoing conventional weapons development, as well as efforts by the South Korean government to lay the foundation for a peace process on the Korean Peninsula, provide humanitarian support to the North, and persuade North Korea to resume inter-Korean exchanges and denuclearization talks.
This closed-door event was the 13th such interactive discussion co-organized by the Canadian embassy and IFES.
