On Thursday, February 4, 2021, the Institute for Far Eastern Studies of Kyungnam University and the Embassy of Canada to Korea held a small ceremony to commemorate the renewal of their memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding their cooperative partnership to co-organize interactive discussions focused on North Korea-related themes.
Both Mr. Michael Danagher, Ambassador of the Embassy of Canada to Korea, and Dr. Kwan-Sei Lee, Director of IFES, attended the event and delivered brief remarks.
The renewal ceremony was held just prior to the most recent IFES-Embassy of Canada interactive discussion—the twelfth such roundtable meeting held since the partnership commenced back in November 2017.
These closed-door meetings provide participants from IFES and select foreign embassies the opportunity to discuss recent North Korea-related developments/current events and longer-term trends of importance and interest.
Due to the local government’s current protocols on the mitigation of COVID-19, the recent meeting was held in a ‘hybrid-virtual’ format.
The IFES is pleased to be renewing its partnership with the Canadian embassy to continue these informative roundtable discussions in the years ahead.
