The Institute for Far Eastern Studies, Kyungnam University held an orientation for its 2020 Academic Exchange Support Program for North Korean and Unification Studies in the morning of Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at the institute’s Jungsan Hall.

In his welcoming remarks at the opening ceremony, IFES director Lee Kwan-Sei said, “This North Korean unification studies fellowship and master's and doctoral courses were opened to provide an opportunity for more systematic and intensive research,” and suggested his vision to “always foster the research process through dialogue and exchange.”

During the main session of the orientation, IFES director of planning Yu Young-soo fielded questions from the fellows and scholarship recipients, as well as provided details on the major support offered during the period of their research and training, including on visits to major facilities inside and outside the campus.

Despite the obstacles and challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the institute was able to host the orientation, which was attended by five fellowship researchers and four master's/doctoral degree students who were selected for the program in June. IFES is proud to be launching the new fellowship/scholarship program -- all a part of its ongoing mission and efforts to promote international peace and reunification of the Korean Peninsula.
