Title IFES-Observer Research Foundation(India) webinar

The Institute for Far Eastern Studies of Kyungnam University (Director Kwan-Sei Lee), jointly with the Observer Research Foundation (ORF), India's representative think tank, and under the auspices of the Korean Embassy in India, held a webinar on the afternoon of August 25 (Tuesday) on the topic of “Stability in the Korean Peninsula: How Has China's Interests Evolve?”
At the seminar, Dr. Jae Kyu Park, president of Kyungnam University (former Minister of Unification) provided a keynote speech. Dr. Rajeswari Pillai Rajagopalan moderated the webinar, which included as panelists Amb. Ho-Young Ahn, president of the University of North Korean Studies (Chair Professor, Kyungnam University); Dr. Sung Kyung Kim, professor of the University of North Korean Studies (Research Fellow IFES, Kyungnam University); Dr. Manpreet Sethi, head of the Nuclear Security Project at the Centre for Air Power Studies, New Delhi; and Dr. Srikanth Kondapalli, professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University. Participants discussed the situation in North Korea and surrounding the Korean peninsula; the current situation and prospects of the North Korean economy; China’s position and role regarding regional security and the nuclear issue; recent political and societal developments in North Korea, including the COVID-19 situation and recent flooding; and prospects for US-ROK, US-DPRK, and inter-Korean relations, among other topics.
