At the Gwanghwamun Artee, Kyungnam University's Institute for Far Eastern Studies hosted a press conference with the theme of “Korean Peninsula Affairs: Assessment of 2019 and Prospects for 2020.”

Director Lee Kwan-se of the Institute for Far Eastern Studies of Kyungnam University hosted this press conference on December 10, 2019 at the Gwanghwamun Artee located in the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts. This event was attended by 48 journalists from 44 newspapers and broadcasters.

Speakers included Professors of IFES including Kim Dong-yup, Lim Eul-chul, Moon Yong-il, Lee Sang-man, and Cho Jin-gu, as well as Professor Yang Moo-jin of University of North Korean Studies, and Professor Lee Ung-hyun of Korea University.

This session included presentations on inter-Korean relations and peace process on the Korean Peninsula; evaluation and prospects for US-DPRK denuclearization negotiations; evaluation and prospects for sanctions and economic development strategies for North Korea; and assessment of political situations in Northeast Asia including the US, China, Russia, and Japan as well as evaluation of Korea policy. This was followed by Q & A from journalists.

The Institute of Far Eastern Studies of Kyungnam University has published the Korean Peninsula Report, which evaluates and provide prospects for the situation on the Korean peninsula every year since 2010.
