Title 2017 Workshop for Kyungnam University/UNKS Invited Professors
Date 2017.03.17
Type [Event]
Date: 2017.02.07
Venue: Westin Chosun Hotel

On February 7, 2017, Kyungnam University and the University of North Korean Studies (UNKS) held its annual invited professors workshop at the Westin Chosun. More than 40 professors participated in the workshop and discussed issues surrounding the changes in the international environment and prospects of inter-Korean relations. President Jae Kyu Park of Kyungnam University maintained the need to be concerned about the issue of U.S. policy toward North Korea, including the possibility of pre-emptive strike. According to President Park, “If it actually happens . . . North Korea will retaliate and we cannot eliminate the chance of having another Korean War.”
The keynote speaker at the workshop, President Minsoon Song of UNKS, gave a presentation titled “The Opening of the Trump Era and South Korea’s Choice.” President Song, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the ROK, articulated that it is very unlikely for the U.S. to launch a first strike because of the possibility of North Korean retaliation and China’s involvement. Open-floor discussion on this and other issues followed the presentation.
